Sky News cameraman killed in Cairo riots

Mick Deane was covering the riots in Cairo

CAIRO, August 14. /ITAR-TASS/.  Cameraman of British TV channel Sky News Mick Deane was killed today while covering the riots in Cairo. This was reported by Egyptian media with reference to medical sources.

According to reports, Mick Deane was killed near the Rabaah al-Adawiyah mosque, where local police has been breaking up camp of protesting Islamists since morning.

Egypt’s authorities haven’t officially confirmed the information yet.

 

Cases of journalists’ deaths at conflict hot spots

On February 22, in Homs died two journalists – Sunday Times reporter Marie Colvin and French photographer Rémi Ochlik. Paris laid the blame on Syrian authorities, but Information Minister Adnan Mahmoud claimed that these journalists arrived in Syria illegally.

According to UN data, a total of 121 journalists were killed in 2012. Over 200 reporters were incarcerated and even more suffered from violent attacks.
