CAIRO, July 20 (Itar-Tass) - Jordan upholds the national choice that was made by the Egyptian people, King Abdullah II of Jordan said.

At the meeting with Egyptian interim president Adli Mansour on Saturday, Abdullah II said Jordan intended to support Egypt to help the country go through the current stage and ensure security and stability.

Abdullah II urged all groups and political forces in Egypt “to work hard to preserve national accord”.

The Jordanian monarch and the Egyptian interim president also discussed the situation in Egypt and the development of the situation in the Middle East, including in Syria. The heads of state agreed to strengthen bilateral relations.

Abdullah II became the first Arab ruler, who had arrived in Egypt after Mohammed Morsi was overthrown. Jordan, which was Egypt’s traditional ally under the rule of Hosni Mubarak, took the neutral position when Islamists came to power.

The new rule in Egypt was also supported by Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait that considered the reinforcement of the Muslem Brotherhood’s positions a threat to the existing situation in the region. The three kingdoms said they had provided financial and economic assistance to Egypt at the amount of 12 billion U.S. dollars.
