CAIRO, November 8. /TASS/. At least four people died and 88 others were injured after two passenger trains collided south of Cairo, Egypt’s health ministry said.

"The number of those injured in the train crash near the city of El-Ayyat has risen to 88. Four passengers died," it said.

The accident occurred on the morning of November 8 when a train traveling from Giza to Fayoum rammed the rear of a train traveling from Cairo to Aswan, near the town of El-Ayyat. As a result of the accident, several cars derailed. Officials from Egypt’s Prosecutor General’s Office are investigating the circumstances and causes of the accident.

Egyptian President Abdelfattah el-Sisi has extended his condolences to the families of those killed in the accident and instructed to investigate it and bring to responsibility ll those "whose criminal negligence led to the tragedy.".
