BUENOS AIRES, October 20. /TASS/. At least 14 people were killed in a landslide at an illegal mine in southwestern Colombia, Alex Gonzalez, secretary for peace and human rights in the Narino department, said.
"So far, 14 people have been confirmed dead. Seven others were injured. Search operations have now been completed," he told Caracol television. Earlier reports put the death toll at nine.
Gonzalez clarified that the site of the incident was an illegal open-pit mine in the municipality of Santa Barbara. The landslide buried miners who were extracting gold.
