All prisoners of war must be treated humanely, UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo said

UNITED NATIONS, August 24. /TASS/. Around half of Russian prisoners of war interviewed by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) reported torture and ill-treatment in the Ukrainian captivity, UN Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo said, citing Russia’s official data.

"Approximately half of the Russian prisoners of war interviewed by OHCHR have provided accounts of torture or ill-treatment. We remind the sides of their obligations under international humanitarian law. All prisoners of war must be treated humanely," she said at a UN Security Council meeting convened by Western countries.

"We urge redoubled efforts to secure the release of all remaining captives, for their sake and for that of their families," she stressed.
