BANGKOK, August 11. /TASS/. At least 19 people have died in the Philippines due to torrential rains caused by tropical storms Luis and Maymay and the intensification of the southwest monsoon, the Civil Defense Office reported.

According to its information, most fatalities were recorded in the northern provinces of Benguet, Rizal, and Batangas. The highest number of fatalities occurred in Benguet Province, where landslides caused most of the deaths. Four people remain missing, and another 15 were injured.

Unfavorable weather conditions have affected over 2.27 million people in nine regions of the country, including Manila. Over 95,000 people have stayed in temporary shelters.
