At least 250 buildings damaged by earthquake in Venezuela

The death toll from the earthquake is approaching 200 people and more than 1,000 people were injured

CARACAS, June 25. /TASS/. At least 250 buildings were damaged in Wednesday's earthquake in Venezuela, Venezolana de Television TV channel quoted Chairman of the National Assembly Jorge Rodriguez as saying.

"The affected or lost infrastructure includes 250 buildings," he said.

The earthquake struck Venezuela late on June 24. Within about 40 seconds, two series of tremors of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 were recorded. Their epicenters were located 10 km from each other in the state of Yaracuy. About 30 aftershocks were recorded after the earthquake. The government declared a state of emergency and declared the coastal state of La Guaira a disaster zone.

Vice-president of the Podemos ('We can') party, which is a coalition partner of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) Willian Rodriguez told TASS that the death toll from the earthquake is approaching 200 people and more than 1,000 people were injured.
