Municipal Mayor Gustavo Duque said that first responders are committed to rescuing the survivors
NEW YORK, June 25. /TASS/. Rescuers have successfully pulled 23 individuals from the rubble of buildings destroyed by the earthquake in the Caracas municipality of Chacao, CNN reported, citing Municipal Mayor Gustavo Duque.
"I am pleased to share that 23 people have been rescued," Duque stated. "Fortunately, we hear that survivors are alive, and we are committed to rescuing them. We will remain here until the last person is saved. With God's help, I believe we will succeed." According to Duque, those rescued are now receiving medical attention.
The earthquake struck Venezuela on the evening of June 24. Two tremors measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude occurred approximately 40 seconds apart. Their epicenters were located about 10 kilometers away in the Venezuelan state of Yaracuy. Acting President Delcy Rodriguez reported that at least 32 people had lost their lives, and around 700 were injured. The tremors caused extensive destruction, destroying numerous buildings. In response, Venezuelan authorities declared a state of emergency and designated the coastal state of La Guaira as a disaster zone.
