MEXICO CITY, April 4. /TASS/. At least one person was killed and 47 others were injured in an incident at an event for the Alianza Lima football club fans at the Alejandro Villanueva Stadium in Peru’s capital, the Infobae news portal reported.
According to its information, the incident was initially attributed to a collapse of structures in the stadium’s southern stands, but the local fire department said the structures were fully intact and ruled out any damage. An investigation into the causes of the incident is underway.
Peru’s Health Minister Juan Carlos Velasco said there had been an incident of fans "pressing against each other," which led to a "fatal outcome."
The portal said football fans had gathered at the stadium for a large-scale rally in support of their team ahead of a match scheduled for Saturday between Alianza Lima and Universitario.
