Russia's mobile hospital goes live in Myanmar, sees first patients

The airmobile hospital of the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s Tsentrospas squad is capable of operating autonomously for at least 14 days while receiving up to 200 patients a day

MOSCOW, April 1. /TASS/. The Russian Emergencies Ministry’s airmobile hospital has begun around-the-clock operations in earthquake-stricken Myanmar, the ministry said in a statement.

"The Russian Emergencies Ministry’s airmobile hospital has begun working in full in the central part of the city of Mandalay, an area hit by the earthquake. Over 20 doctors are providing medical assistance to those in need. Therapeutic, surgical and intensive care units have received the first patients. The hospital will operate around the clock," the statement reads. The ministry added that its psychologists were also taking part in the mission.

The airmobile hospital of the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s Tsentrospas squad is capable of operating autonomously for at least 14 days while receiving up to 200 patients a day. Meanwhile, its in-patient facility has 50 beds. The hospital has the necessary equipment for even the most complex surgeries.

Russian doctors have already provided medical care to more than 20 people injured in the Myanmar earthquake, Viktor Belinsky, an anesthesiologist with the Tsentrospas team, said.

A powerful earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28. The Thai Meteorological Department estimated its strength at 8.2 The first quake was followed by another one, with magnitude 6.4. The disaster also affected Thailand; tremors were felt in China and Vietnam. Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his condolences to Myanmar’s prime minister. The Russian Emergencies Ministry sent rescuers, K-9 experts and medical workers to Myanmar to deal with the aftermath of the devastating earthquake.
