Fire at Russian coalmine prompts evacuation of 290 workers

A total of 30 mine rescue specialists and seven pieces of rescue equipment are working in the area

MOSCOW, March 10. /TASS/. A total of 290 miners evacuated from the Zapolyarnaya-2 coalmine in Komi, a region in the northeast of European Russia, due to a fire, the Russian emergencies ministry’s press service said.

"Miners evacuated from the Zapolyarnaya-2 coalmine in Komi. A fire broke out at the coal-mining enterprise in Vorkuta. 290 people rose to the surface," the ministry said in a statement. "No casualties were reported."

A total of 30 mine rescue specialists and seven pieces of rescue equipment are working in the area.
