YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, February 9. /TASS/. The ship that ran aground in the Nevelsky District of the Sakhalin Region, Russia’s Far East, is loaded with coal, fuel oil and motor oil, no fuel spill was detected, the regional government press service reported.
"According to latest information, the cargo bulk carrier AN YANG 2 ran aground late in the evening of February 8 due to a strong storm. <…> There are 20 crew members on board the vessel, they are citizens of China. It is also known that the vessel is loaded with coal, fuel oil and motor oil. According to preliminary information, there is no threat to the lives of the crew. At the moment, communication has been established with the captain of the vessel: there is a supply of water and food on board, people do not need medical assistance. No fuel spill was detected," the report says.

"The vessel is currently located approximately 200 m from the coastline, and communication with the crew has been established. The coastline is being monitored around the clock for fuel spills from the vessel. There is no precise information about the presence of damage to the hull of this vessel today. Neither divers nor floating craft can approach the vessel due to a strong storm. This opportunity will be possible approximately tomorrow in the middle of the day," the statement quotes Deputy Chairman of the Sakhalin Region Government Alexey Rimsha as saying.
He added that specialists from the marine rescue service from Korsakov with the necessary equipment and vessels have been sent to Nevelsk. The situation is under the constant control of the governor, the regional government and emergency rescue services.
