Law enforcement officials indicated that additional suspects might surface as efforts continue to track Akhmad Kurbanov’s connections and analyze his mobile devices for evidence of potential accomplices
MOSCOW, December 18. /TASS/. Uzbek national Akhmad Kurbanov, suspected of murdering the Chief of Russia’s Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Troops Lieutenant-General Igor Kirillov, reportedly led a normal lifestyle in the Russian city of Kazan, a source familiar with the investigation told TASS.
"Akhmad was a fan of sports, particularly boxing, and as far as I know, he resided in Kazan. He led a seemingly ordinary life," the source shared.
Law enforcement officials indicated that additional suspects might surface as efforts continue to track Kurbanov’s connections and analyze his mobile devices for evidence of potential accomplices.
Investigators revealed that an explosive device hidden in a scooter was detonated near the entrance of an apartment building on Ryazansky Avenue in southeast Moscow on the morning of December 17. The blast claimed the lives of Kirillov and his assistant. The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation under articles 105 ("Murder"), 205 ("Act of Terrorism"), and 222 ("Illegal Weapons and Ammunition Trafficking") of the Russian Criminal Code. Authorities are working to identify all individuals involved in the crime.
The press bureau of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced that the suspect behind Kirillov’s assassination has been apprehended. The detainee, an Uzbek national, was allegedly promised $100,000 in cash and a chance to relocate to a European Union country.
