MOSCOW, December 17. /TASS/. Latvian professional basketball player Janis Timma was found dead in downtown Moscow after an apparent suicide, a source in the emergency services told TASS on Tuesday.

"The body of 32-year-old Janis Timma was discovered in the entrance hall of an apartment building in downtown Moscow. According to unconfirmed reports, the cause of death was a suicide," the source said.

He also mentioned that a smartphone was found near the body of the basketball player, and, according to preliminary information, it contained his final will. The reasons behind the suicide are currently under investigation.

Latvian basketball player Timma had played for various European basketball clubs, including in Russia, throughout his career. Since 2024, he had been playing as a small forward for the Spanish basketball club Monbus Obradoiro.
