Kurgan Region introduces state of emergency due to flood
Head of the region Vadim Shumkov noted that the flood forecast is becoming dramatically worse
TASS, April 8. Authorities of the Kurgan Region have introduced the state of emergency due to the flood, head of the region Vadim Shumkov said on his Telegram channel.
"We introduce the state of emergency of the regional level," he wrote.
The flood forecast is becoming dramatically worse, Shumkov noted. "Water is coming in much greater volume and quicker. The water level in the Tobol [river], according to data of the Russian Federal Service on Hydrometeorology and Monitoring of the Environment and colleagues from Kazakhstan, is forecast to be eleven meters and more, which is much higher than in 1994 [when there was a strong inundation]," the official added. He urged people living in settlements in the flood plain of the Tobol river to evacuate without waiting for the water arrival.
