Flood zone in Orsk may increase, flood peak yet to come
Over 6,100 residential houses are flooded
TASS, April 7. The flood zone in Orsk, Orenburg Region, where a dam collapsed, may increase, it is too early to talk about stabilization of the situation, operational services told TASS.
"The peak of the flood has not passed, so it is too early to talk about stabilization. The flood zone may increase," a sourse said.
According to the latest data, water from the Ural River has reached several districts. Over 6,100 residential houses are flooded.
The partial collapse of a dam in Orsk, Orenburg Region, occurred in two places on the night of April 6. Another breach took place in the evening of the same day. The bodies of two people were found in the flooded area, but they weren’t killed by the emergency, officials said. Authorities have declared a regional-level emergency situation and are urging residents to evacuate. On Sunday morning, Russian Emergencies Minister Alexander Kurenkov arrived in the region on the orders of the Russian president.
