Criminal case of negligence opened due to dam break in Russia’s Orenburg region

MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. A criminal case under two articles was initiated due to a dam break in Russia’s Orenburg region, the investigative department of the Russian Investigative Committee the Orenburg Region told TASS.

"A criminal case was opened on the grounds of crimes under the article on violation of safety rules during construction work (Part 1 of Article 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and the article on negligence (Part 1 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation)," the department said.

The partial collapse of a dam in Orsk, Orenburg region, occurred in two places on Saturday night. The dam protected the city from the waters of the Ural River. By Saturday morning, the water had reached several districts of the city, around 2,400 residential buildings and 3,000 adjacent areas in Orsk were flooded.
