Estonian journalist working for Russian media held in custody since early March
The 57-year-old journalist Svetlana Burtseva is accused of violating international sanctions
VILNIUS, March 27. /TASS/. Estonian citizen and journalist Svetlana Burtseva has been in custody since early March due to her cooperation with Russian state media, the portal of Estonian state broadcaster ERR reported.
According to the portal, the criminal case against Burtseva became public after her lawyer Sven Sillar demanded her release in the Tallinn District Court.
The Harju County Court detained Burtseva at the request of the state prosecutor's office. The 57-year-old journalist is accused of violating international sanctions. The Estonian citizen wrote articles and took photos for the Baltnews website, which is under EU sanctions.
Burtseva previously worked for the Sputnik Eesti online publication, which ceased operations in the Baltic republic due to sanctions in 2019.
