Miner killed as coal mine gets partially flooded in Russia’s Vorkuta

As many as 60 miners were working at the Zapolyarnaya coal mine operated by Vorkutaugol at a depth of 600 meters below the surface when it got partially flooded with groundwater

SYKTYVKAR, January 15. /TASS/. A miner working in Vorkuta was killed in a flash flood, the Russian Emergencies Ministry’s department in northwestern Russia’s Komi Republic said.

"One was killed as the Zapolyarnaya mine was partially flooded with groundwater in Vorkuta. Rescuers found his body," the department said in a statement

There were three miners at the emergency site, local emergency officials told TASS. Out of those three miners, one is safe, another one has been hospitalized with bone fractures, but the third one was killed.
