Over 200 buildings burned down in the Ishikawa Prefecture

TOKYO, January 2. /TASS/. The number of people killed in the earthquakes that rocked Japan has risen to 48, the Ishikawa Prefecture’s authorities said.

According to emergency services, at least 50 people suffered injuries.

Over 200 buildings burned down in the Ishikawa Prefecture. More than 100 buildings collapsed and there are people trapped under the rubble. Rescuers and firefighters are working at the scene and the Japanese Self-Defence Forces are assisting in dealing with the aftermath of the quakes. Some 60,000 people have been evacuated.

More than 200 earthquakes with magnitudes of up to 7.6 have hit Japan since Monday. A tsunami warning for the country’s western coast remained in effect for over 20 hours.
