UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell injured in car accident in Egypt
It is reported that Russell continued her visit to the Gaza Strip after the accident
NEW YORK, November 15. /TASS/. United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Executive Director Catherine Russell was injured in a car accident in Egypt on Tuesday, Reuters reports citing a UNICEF representative, who added that Russell’s visit to Israel was postponed due to her injuries.
"While en route to Rafah, we believe the car hit or tried to avert a big pothole that made the car go over a deep ditch and flip on the side," UNICEF head of media Kurtis Cooper said. He noted that Russell suffered "significant bruising, and is in quite a bit of discomfort, but her injuries are not considered serious."
According to the official, Russell continued her visit to the Gaza Strip after the accident. Following a medical examination, it was decided to postpone her visit to Israel, where she planned to meet with families of abducted children.
