Death toll climbs to nine due to adverse weather in Volga region — Ministry of Emergencies
Sixty seven persons were injured
MOSCOW, July 30. /TASS/. Nine individuals died and sixty seven persons were injured as a result of the bad weather in the Volga Federal District, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Emergencies told TASS.
"Hazardous weather phenomena, accompanied with wind gusts up to 27 meters per second, are affecting since yesterday eight regions of the Volga Federal District (Republics of Tatarstan and Mariy El, the Chuvash Republic, Nizhny Novgorod, Penza, Ulyanovsk, Kirov and Samara Regions). Seventy six persons were affected, including nine died," the ministry said.
The power outage affected 99,500 persons. The wind damaged roofs of 41 residential buildings and seven social facilities. 550 trees were brought down.
"Rescuers of the Russian Ministry of Emergencies are helping people to cope with after-effects of the adverse weather," the ministry added. According to the weather forecast, the cyclone will continue affecting Volga regions.
