MOSCOW, February 28. /TASS/. Russian emergencies ministry’s bomb specialists have defused 201 Lepestok antipersonnel mines in Donetsk’s Petrovsky district, the ministry said on Tuesday.

"During the day, bomb specialists of the emergencies ministry destroyed 201 Lepestok antipersonnel mines. The work was complicated by shelling attacks," it wrote on its Telegram channel, adding that demining works will be continued.

Donetsk Mayor Alexey Kulemzin said earlier that Lepestok mines were spotted in Donetsk’s Petroovsky district.

The PFM-1 Lepestok is a pressure-fused anti-personnel mine. Such mines can be dropped via artillery shells. The mine’s body is made of khaki-colored polyethylene, making it difficult to detect. The mine is especially hazardous for civilians as it is nearly unrecognizable due to its small size and unusual shape. The use of antipersonnel mines is prohibited by the Ottawa Convention, which was ratified by Ukraine in 2005.
