Earthquake death toll in Turkey exceeds 19,000, president says

Earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 hit the Kahramanmaras province in southeastern Turkey on Monday

ANKARA, February 10. /TASS/. The earthquake death toll in Turkey has risen to 19,388, the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced on Friday.

"The number of those killed has reached 19,388. As many as 77,711 people suffered injuries," he said in a speech in the Malatya province.

Earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 7.6 hit the Kahramanmaras province in southeastern Turkey on Monday. The tremors, followed by hundreds of aftershocks, were felt in ten Turkish provinces, as well as in neighboring countries, including Syria.
