MOSCOW, May 23./TASS/. The Russian Investigative Committee has launched a probe into the attempt on the life of the mayor of Energodar (Zaporozhye region, Ukraine) Andrey Shevchik, the committee’s press service told journalists on Monday.

"Investigators will establish the circumstances of the attempt on the life of the mayor of Energodar in the Zaporozhye region, which is under the control of the Russian Armed Forces, as part of the investigation into crimes by Ukrainian nationalists," the Investigative Committee said.

The mayor of Energodar’s new administration, Andrey Shevchik, and his two guards were wounded on Sunday in an explosion in the entrance hall of the apartment building where he lives. The blast went off as the mayor entered the building.

According to local law enforcement agencies, Shevchik repeatedly received threats from Ukrainian nationalists after he took the pro-Russia side.
