Area of forest fires in Russia rises by around 9,000 hectares over day
The largest fire area was reported in the Amur Region
VLADIVOSTOK, May 12. /TASS/. The total area of forest fires in Russia over the past day has increased by around 9,000 hectares to 25,500 hectares. The largest fire area was reported in the Amur Region, the press service of the Federal Aerial Forest Protection Service reported on Thursday.
As of Wednesday morning, there were 155 forest fires on an area of 16,987 hectares.
"Over the past day on May 11, 2022, 204 forest fires were extinguished in Russia on an area of 26,291 hectares. As of 00:00 Moscow time on May 12, 2022, there were 107 forest fires on the territory of Russia on an area of 25,526 hectares, which were actively extinguished," the service said in a statement.
Meanwhile, 6,542 people, 1,369 pieces of equipment, 26 aircraft are involved in the firefighting and another 74 aircraft - in monitoring.
