Two people killed in gas explosion near Moscow, Emergencies Ministry says
The explosion may have been caused by a gas leak due to faulty equipment
MOSCOW, April 11. /TASS/. Russia’s Emergencies Ministry specified that two people were killed and five were injured in a gas explosion in a residential building in Stupino near Moscow.
"To clarify: there were seven people affected, including two who were killed," the agency’s press service said on Monday.
A source in the emergency services told TASS that a 12-year-old child was killed, there is also a child among those injured. According to preliminary information, there were no people left under the rubble, the source said. The explosion may have been caused by a gas leak due to faulty equipment.
A temporary accommodation facility is set up for evacuated residents at a local club.
Earlier, the Emergencies Ministry reported that a gas explosion occurred on the fourth floor of a residential five-story building at 05:45 Moscow time. Following the explosion, a fire broke out. Outer walls collapsed on the top two floors. 60 people were evacuated from the building including 10 children. The specialists of the Tsentrspas and Lider teams were sent to the site for the debris removal and clean-up.
