Jehovah's Witnesses leader to stand trial in Russia’s Murmansk
The indicted religious leader was engaged in religious activities in the region between April 2017 and 2019
MURMANSK, January 29. /TASS/. One of the heads of the Murmansk office of Jehovah's Witnesses, an extremist organization outlawed in Russia, is set to appear before court, the regional Investigative Committee office told TASS Friday.
"The department for investigating major cases of the Murmansk Region’s Russian Investigative Committee office has completed probing a criminal case against one of the leaders of the Jehovah's Witnesses local religious organizations <…> detained in January 2020," the agency noted, adding that he is indicted on the charge of organizing activities of a religious association banned in the country.
The indicted religious leader was engaged in religious activities in the region between April 2017 and 2019, holding meetings, giving sermons, spreading religious literature and attracting new members.
