Three miners dead in rockfall caused by methane outburst in Siberia

44 people were underground when the accident happened, 41 of them were evacuated

KEMEROVO, January 22. /TASS/. Three miners have died after a rockfall in the Tikhov mine in Russia’s Leninsk-Kuznetsky, Kemerovo Region, caused by a firedamp outburst, the regional technical ministry office told TASS Friday.

According to the regional Emergencies Ministry, 44 people were underground when the accident happened, 41 of them were evacuated.

The Tikhov mine has been operating since 2017, it can produce 1.8 million tonnes of coal annually.

Criminal case was launched into violation of safety requirements that resulted in deaths of more than one person.
