Caracas authorities trying to restore power supply in Venezuelan capital
Social network users started reporting about the restored power supply in some residential buildings
CARACAS, March 8. /TASS/. Power supply was partially restored in several districts of the Venezuelan capital for several minutes on Friday, after which Caracas plunged into a blackout again, TASS reports from the scene.
At about 00:45 a.m. (07:45 a.m. Moscow time), street lighting was partially restored in the district of Las Mercedes and the adjacent areas of Chacao and Altamira. The windows of some buildings and street signs were lit up. Social network users started reporting about the restored power supply in some residential buildings. Some public buildings switched to the basic power sources.
However, about 10 minutes after, the windows, street signs and lights again went down. In the subsequent 30 minutes, there were no attempts to restore power supply in the Venezuelan capital.
Caracas and 20 Venezuelan states were hit by a blackout on Thursday. According to the National Electric Power Company, sabotage at the country’s largest Simon Bolivar Hydroelectric Power Plant in the Bolivar state was the cause of the blackout. Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro accused "American imperialism" of the incident.
