MOSCOW, December 29. /TASS/. /TASS/. Eight people have been rescued after a series of avalanches in the settlement of Mnogovershinny in Russia's Far Easter Khabarovsk Region, the local administration told TASS on Saturday.

"We found nine people. Eight people are alive, one person died," the administration said adding that a group of paramedics has been sent to the scene. Those injured are being evacuated to a local hospital.

The avalanche struck early morning on Saturday. First reports said that the avalanche struck a compressor station belonging to a gold-mining company, with one person inside. A group of 10 rescuers working for the gold-mining company went to the site. Another avalanche came down, trapping them under the snow.

"All efforts are now centered on clearing the settlement and the road from the avalanche site to the hospital from the snow," the administration said.
