Energy chief sees no negative consequences for energy complex from possible sanctions yet
Russia will be able to take tit-for-tat measures if Western sanctions have an impact on the fuel and energy complex, Novak states
MOSCOW, April 6. /TASS/. The new sanctions imposed by the US and European countries against Russia do not yet have a negative impact on the Russian fuel and energy complex, Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak told reporters.
"Today, there are actions against the fuel and energy complex, and I hope it will not happen based on the current situation," he said. "We do not see any actions regarding commercial projects and other interactions in the fuel and energy sector," Novak added.
He added that he hopes that justice will "triumph in the issue of sanctions, the competent bodies will finally sort out in this situation, and certain actions will not be taken based on unconfirmed information. This is nonsense."
According to him, Russia will be able to take tit-for-tat measures if the sanctions imposed by the United States and European countries against Russia affect the fuel and energy complex, but Russia stands for cooperation in the energy sector and market relations.
"Undoubtedly, if certain measures are taken against us, we will have the opportunity to react," he said.
"If there are any actions, we will take some kind of retaliatory measures," the minister added, adding that Russia is not currently working on these measures, since it is interested in cooperation in the field of energy. "On the contrary, it is necessary to consolidate efforts to meet growing needs," Novak added.
