Communication Ministry proposes to reduce data storage period within new anti-terror law
The proposal implies the storage period of one month
MOSCOW, October 17. /TASS/. Russia's Communication Ministry proposes to reduce the data storage period within the so-called ‘Yarovaya package’ of anti-terrorist laws to one month, the Minister Nikolai Nikiforov said Tuesday.
"Our proposal implies the storage period of one month," he said.
According to Nikiforov, the proposed document has been long developed with colleagues from the Federal Security Service. "This is their direct responsibility from the viewpoint of data storage period, which they set in reliance on tasks on security provision in the Russian Federation," he said.
The ministry’s estimations say that the expenses of biggest telecom operators will amount to several tens of billions of rubles if the data storage period is set at around one month, the minister added.
The so-called Yarovaya anti-terrorist laws initiated by State Duma (lower house) member Irina Yarovaya and Federation Council (upper house) member Viktor Ozerov, obliges communications operators from July 1, 2018 to store data on the receipt, transmission, delivery and processing of voice information and text messages, images, audio and video materials for three years. Operators are obliged to keep "the heaviest" content - images, audio and video data - for six months. They will also be required to supply this information at the request of the special services.
