Rosneft and Finnish Lamor to work on oil spill prevention technologies in Arctic
Rosneft holds 55 licenses on continental shelf exploration (28 of them at the Arctic shelf)
ARKHANGELSK, March 30. /TASS/. Russia’s biggest oil producer Rosneft and the Finnish Lamor, a global leader in oil spill response and environmental solutions, have signed an agreement within the International Arctic Forum, on the main principles of cooperation to study the prospects of localizing the production of oil spill response (OSR) equipment and machinery for Russia's Arctic region, Rosneft reported Thursday.
"It is assumed that the level of localization will be at least 70% by 2025, and the equipment will be manufactured at one of the shipbuilding facilities created with Rosneft participation. The parties will consider joint production of specialized floating crafts, equipment for oil products collection from the water surface and soil, oil containment booms, as well as other equipment and components. According to the agreement, the companies intend to arrange joint manufacturing of equipment for Rosneft projects and third-party customers," the report said.
Currently, Rosneft holds 55 licenses on continental shelf exploration (28 of them at the Arctic shelf) covering a total area of more than 1 mln square kilometers.
"In order to introduce further innovative approaches and technologies, Rosneft has teamed up with a long-standing partner, Lamor, which has been supplying OSR equipment for the company's production assets for about 20 years," Rosneft said.
Lamor, headquartered in Finland, operates in 94 countries and has a 40% share of the global OSR equipment market. The company also has experience in localizing production, e.g. in the United Stats, China, and Spain. It also has a 30-year experience in the development and application of Arctic technologies. Lamor has service centers in Russia providing maintenance and support of OSR equipment - Ecoshelf (Sakhalin) and Ecoshelf-Baltika (St. Petersburg).
