Rosatom welcomes EC decision, ready to implement Paks NPP project

MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. Rosatom is ready to initiative the proactive stage of implementing the project on construction of two new blocks at Paks nuclear power plant (NPP) in Hungary after the project approval by the European Commission (EC), press service of the Russian nuclear corporation said on Monday.
"The Paks NPP expansion project obtained the environmental license in the first instance; an application for construction site license was filed. The main task in this year is to prepare to the main phase of new blocks building scheduled for 2018, Rosatom says.
Construction of two new blocks at the Paks NPP is an important project of bilateral cooperation, First Deputy CEO of Rosatom Kirill Komarov said.
"Construction of two new blocks of the Paks NPP is an important project of Russian-Hungarian bilateral cooperation and we are ready to start a proactive phase of its implementation. The state-of-the-art Russian power units of Generation 3+ will be built in Hungary, meeting post-Fukushima safety requirements and IAEA recommendations. We are constructing similar blocks now in Finland, Turkey, Bangladesh and other countries," he said.
It was reported earlier the European Commission approved construction of two new nuclear reactors at the Paks NPP in Hungary.
