London court decision on Ukraine’s debt to Russia expected after April 16
The judge will decide whether he continues consideration of Russia’s claim against Ukraine on Eurobonds under the accelerated procedure or gives preference to classic legal proceedings
BISHKEK, February 28. /TASS/. The High Court of London can announce its decision on settlement of the issue of the Ukraine’s debt to Russia from April 16 to May 1, Russia’s Deputy Finance Minister Sergey Storchak told reporters on Tuesday.
"The judge recessed for consideration, further [steps can be - TASS] between April 6 and May 1. The judge will decide whether he continues consideration of Russia’s claim against Ukraine on Eurobonds under the accelerated procedure or gives preference to classic legal proceedings," Storchak said.
Ukraine’s senior officials have not contacted Russia for debt settlements after the London Court’s session in January 2017, Storchak said. Growing distrust of foreign investors in Ukraine’s economic course will be observed in conditions of ongoing litigation with Russia, he added.
"It’s difficult for me to assume that someone will buy their debt instruments," Storchak said.
Ukraine defaulted on Eurobonds redeemed in Russia in December 2013 in the amount of $3 bln in December 2015. Russian Finance Ministry filed an action to recover the debt to the High Court of London in February 2016.
