Egypt makes good progress in meeting Russia’s safety demands — ministry
MOSCOW, November 21./TASS/. The Egyptian aviation authorities have made sizable progress in complying with Russia’s aviation safety requirements, the press service of the Russian Transport Ministry has told Tass.
"Over the recent time, Egyptian colleagues have made good progress in that direction, and the countries are cooperating constructively," the ministry said.
The ministry said resumption of flights is possible only after the Egyptian side fulfils the requirements of Russian experts as to safety at local airports. Russian experts will be ready to once again head to Egypt within a week’s time after receiving the invitation to assess security of Egyptian airports, the press service said.
Moscow and Cairo have been negotiating the resumption of air flights to the country since late 2015. Russia stopped all air flights to Egypt following a terrorist attack on a jet owned by the Kogalymavia air carrier (flight 9268) last October. The Russian A321 passenger jet crashed in Sinai some 30 minutes after takeoff from Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh. The plane carried 224 people, mostly Russian tourists. None survived.
