Inflation may stand at 5.5% at end of 2016 — Medvedev

MOSCOW, November 4. /TASS/. Inflation at the end of the year may be lower than forecasted 5.8% and stand at 5.5%, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said in an interview with the Chinese Central Television (CCTV).

"It is also very important that we managed to stabilize inflation by now. It will stand at around 5.5% this year," Medvedev said.

He added that next year the government hopes to achieve the inflation of 4%, which will allow to adopt policies "more helpful for business." "Of course, there are certain difficulties, but in general I think that macroeconomic conditions are very calm," the prime minister noted.

According to the updated socio-economic development outlook prepared by the Russian Economic Development Ministry, inflation will reach 5.8% at the end of 2016 against the earlier forecasted 6.4%. Finance Minister Anton Siluanov also said earlier that inflation at the end of 2016 may be lower than earlier planned 5.8%.

According to the basic socio-economic development outlook in Russia for 2017-2019, inflation in Russia will stabilize at the level of 4% for the whole year.
