Russian air agency warns against packing Galaxy Note 7 in baggage
The device must be off during the flight
MOSCOW, September 23. /TASS/. Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviation) has issued a warning that air passengers refrain from packing Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in their baggage and switch them off during flights, the agency’s press service said.
"In order to ensure flight security, The Federal Air Transport Agency recommends that air passengers refrain from packing Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones in their baggage or charging them during flights, and keep them switched off," the agency’s statement says.
This restriction applies only to those devices purchased before September 2, 2016, outside Russia and other CIS countries as the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is not officially available on these territories.
As reported earlier, Samsung Corporation announced a massive recall and a halt in sales of the Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, due to a problem with the battery that can be subject to explosion hazard. Against this backdrop, the South Korean corporation’s stock price has plummeted by 11% or $22 billion in just two trading days (September 9 and 12) thus setting an eight-year record.
The risks connected to the so-called explosive batteries have driven aviation authorities in many countries to warn passengers to refrain from using these smartphones during flights. Moreover, in one case a car burned down as a result of a smartphone explosion.
