Google sues Russia's Federal Antimonopoly Service
On August 11, the watchdog set a penalty for Google for the violation of Russia's antimonopoly legislation
MOSCOW, August 30. /TASS/. Google has filed a lawsuit against Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) with the Moscow Arbitration Court, according to judiciary documents.
The claim was registered on August 29, though further details on the matter have not been disclosed.
On August 11, the FAS fined Google 438.1 mln rubles for violating antimonopoly legislation. "We confirm that we have submitted a lawsuit," a representative from Google told TASS, stating that as long as proceedings are underway, the company is not obliged to pay the penalty. She did not give any further details.
On September 14, 2015, the Federal Antimonopoly Service ruled that Google Inc. and Google Ireland Ltd. had breached the competition protection law based on a complaint filed by Russia’s Internet search-engine giant, Yandex. According to the regulator, Google obliged manufacturers of Android OS-based devices to pre-install its applications together with an Android platform. The FAS said that Google’s policy restricted the installation of applications by other developers.
