Kara Sea offshore potential is greater than Saudi Arabia’s resource base — Rosneft
The Russian oil giant will initiate seismic exploration in the Kara, Chukchi and Laptev Seas in summer 2016
ST. PETERSBURG, June 15. /TASS/. The resource potential of the largest offshore West Siberian petroleum province in the Kara Sea is greater than Saudi Arabia’s resource base, Chief Executive Officer of Rosneft Igor Sechin said on Wednesday.
"The company is consolidating its positions in the Arctic offshore region. Eighteen months ago we discovered the Pobeda field in the Kara Sea as a result of drilling the northernmost well in the Russian Federation, which is among top three largest fields discovered in the last three years. This discovery made possible to confirm extension of the largest West Siberian petroleum province offshore in the Kara Sea, whose resource potential can be compared with the resource base of Saudi Arabia," Sechin said.
It was reported earlier Rosneft will initiate seismic exploration in the Kara, Chukchi and Laptev Seas in summer 2016.
