Russian aviation watchdog: security measures in Egypt satisfactory
Russian air transport agency head says some proposals in addition to the security precautions being taken at Egypt’s airports were drafted
SOCHI, May 12. /TASS/. Russian air transport agency Rosaviatsiya has drafted some proposals in addition to the security precautions being taken at Egypt’s airports, but at the same time it is pleased with the results achieved by and large, the agency’s head Aleksandr Neradko, said on Thursday.
"We maintain working contacts with our Egyptian counterparts. We exchange information about the results of our work with specialists," he said. "Our experts visited Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh just recently. We’ve made some comments in addition to the measures being taken at Egypt’s airports. Progress is obvious."
The Egyptian authorities, Neradko said, have been taking considerable measures to enhance flight security.
"At the same time we’ve drafted some remarks which are practically on the way through the Foreign Ministry to our Egyptian counterparts," he said.
Egypt, he went on to say, has an action plan and some of the measures have not materialized yet.
Security is a very sensitive matter and any proposal deserves close attention, he stated.
Neradko refrained from comments as to when air links with Egypt might be restored. Security measures are a rather costly affair and everything depends on the budget.
"But let me say once again that the Egyptian authorities are trying really hard and this is very much in sight," he concluded.
