Kyrgyzstan becomes fifth Eurasian Economic Union member-state

The country's president Almazbek Atambayev expresses hope that now Kyrgyz people will reach the income level of their neighbors

BISHKEK, August 12. /TASS/. Kyrgyzstan eyes great prospects after its accession to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the republic’s president, Almazbek Atambayev said during an official ceremony on Wednesday.

"Now our market is not limited to only Central Asian countries. We have gained a much greater space with the opening of borders," Atambayev said, adding: "I hope that now people of this country will reach the income level of neighbors."

Kyrgyz Prime Minister Temir Sariyev said he expects the republic to gain a number of advantages for the economic development, namely the freedom of movements of capital, goods, labor and resources.

On Wednesday, Kyrgyzstan is officially registered by the Eurasian commission as a member of the EAEU, which also comprises Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Armenia. Earlier in the day, a ceremony was held to lift customs controls on the border between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
