Russia to substitute military hardware imports from EU by 2021 — deputy PM
Dmitry Rogozin said 90% of the items will be substituted in 2018
KRASNODAR, August 11. /TASS/. Russia is set to fully substitute military hardware imports from the European Union by 2021, Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin said on Tuesday.
"As for NATO countries and the European Union, the last positions will be substituted in 2021. But basically, 90% of the items will be substituted by 2018," Rogozin said.
"As for Ukraine, the deadline for import substitution is 2018. The most complex items [for substitution] primarily concern gas generators, power plants for some vessels, and also aviation engines for helicopters and aircraft. All necessary decisions have already been taken on these positions," Rogozin said.
The plans and schedules of substituting military hardware from Ukraine involve about 186 types of armaments and special equipment and deal with a thousand of different items, Rogozin said.
Meanwhile, Russia has to substitute about 800 types of armaments and special military equipment from the NATO countries and the European Union, which involves about several dozen thousand specific items, the vice-premier said.
The data on substituting foreign military hardware in Russia are referred to classified information but they may disappoint foreigner partners, Rogozin said.
"There are such data but they are referred to the category of classified information. Why should we disclose all this? I can only say one thing: these data are disappointing for our partners who have imposed sanctions [against Moscow]," the vice-premier said.
