MOSCOW, June 26. /TASS/. Serbia has taken no decision on its participation in the Turkish Stream and is looking at several option of securing natural gas supplies to the country, Serbian Ambassador to Russia Slavenk Terzic said on Friday.

"Serbia has no objections against the Turkish Stream, but talks on the pipeline’s route via Serbia are proceeding with difficulty. We have no idea how the situation may turn out. That is why Serbia has taken no concrete decision so far," he said in an interview with the Russian News Service. "But we still hope to continue close cooperation with Russia on gas supplies."

The Serbian diplomat stressed that energy security issues were of major significance for his country. "Russian gas is very important for us, like for the rest of Europe." He said. We so far do not know whether this gas is supplies via the Turkish Stream or via some other pipeline. Serbia is ready for all projects that would ensure our energy stability and security."

"There is an initiative on the part of the European Union, a proposal to Russia to establish a kind of "Eastern ring" to pump gas via Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Slovakia, to Serbia, in which case Serbia will not be a transit country. It would be a big loss for us." Terzic said.

The Turkish Stream project provides for the construction of a gas pipeline across the Black Sea bottom from Russia’s Russkaya compressor station to European Turkey. The decision to implement this project was taken during Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Ankara on December 1, 2014 after Russia had announced the abandonment of the South Stream gas pipeline project over the European Union’s non-constructive policy. The Turkish Stream project provides for the establishment of a gas hub for European consumers at the Turkish-Greek border. The pipeline is planned to be launched from December 2016.
