Operations with Visa, MasterCard cards may resume in Crimea by year-end — NSPC CEO
Domestic transactions with MasterCard are serviced in full scope in the peninsula and Visa cards will resume operating soon
MOSCOW, May 28. /TASS/. Normal domestic operations with Visa and MasterCard cards may resume in Crimea by 2015 year-end, CEO of the Russian National System of Payment Cards (NSPC) Vladimir Komlev said on Thursday.
Domestic transactions with MasterCard are serviced in full scope in the peninsula and Visa cards will resume operating soon, Komlev added.
"As far as I am aware, MasterCard is working there and Visa will start operating soon. MasterCard cards are functioning in Crimea in the network of banks, whose terminals and ATMs are working there. Many of them perform transactions with MasterCard cards," he added.
Visa said last December it is not able any more to support the issue and the acceptance of cards in Crimea and their servicing in ATMs. MasterCard released a similar statement slightly later. The press service of the international card system said that sanctions were the cause of services suspension.
