Russia's KAMAZ truck manufacturer mulls vehicle assembly facility in China — CEO
KAMAZ already has a production site in India
MOSCOW, May 14. /TASS/. The largest Russian truck maker KAMAZ considers an opportunity of organizing vehicles assembly in China, Chief Executive Officer of KAMAZ Sergey Kogogin said on Thursday.
"We are very seriously looking at China for the time being, where clusters have already been set up for production of vehicle components we use for production in Russia," Kogogin said. The main task for the company in this case "is to transfer production and work at such sites to avoid currency risks," he added. It is difficult to forecast company’s sales because of the market instability and fluctuating exchange rates, KAMAZ CEO said.
KAMAZ already has a production site in India. "Conditions appear at present when we actually redesigned the vehicle and made 90% localization of production in India. We avoided currency risks. Only cabins and engines are currently delivered from Russia; all the other things we are doing together with suppliers from India," Kogogin said.
KAMAZ is targeting the export component in conditions of the domestic sales drop, company CEO said. The company plans to keep its export at the level of 6,000 in 2015. KAMAZ may sell from 6 to 8 thousand CKD kits at 2015 year-end.
