Ukrainian company claims Gazprom began reducing gas transit through Ukraine to Europe

As of March 14, Russian gas transit decreased in the direction of Slovakia, Hungary and the Balkans

KIEV, March 16. /TASS/. Ukrainian transportation company Ukrtransgaz claims Russian gas giant Gazprom began to gradually reduce gas transit through Ukraine to Europe.

According to the Ukrainian company, on March 6, 2014, Gazprom increased the daily transit volume of gas passing through Ukraine by 39% to 183 mln cubic meters per day. During the week, the Russian gas supply through Ukraine to Europe rested at a level above170 mln cubic meters per day. On March 13, Gazprom began reducing the volume, and as of March, 14 it amounted to 159.9 mln cubic meters.

In particular, as of March 14, Russian gas transit decreased in the direction of Slovakia, Hungary and the Balkans.

It was erlier reported that representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the European Union will gather in Brussels on March 20 to discuss supplies of Russia's gas to Ukraine in the summer period. Russian Ambassador to the EU Vladimir Chizhov on Monday told TASS that the date has not yet been confirmed.

"March 20 was mentioned earlier, but the date has not yet been confirmed," Chizhov said.

Ukraine was planning to negotiate post-payment for Russian gas supplies and a decline in gas delivery price.
