Ukraine receives more than 50% of its gas from EU — minister
According to the minister, it strengthens Ukraine's position in the dialogue with Russia
KIEV, March 12. / TASS / Ukraine receives more than 50% of the gas reversal from the European Union, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Vladimir Demchishin said at a press-conference on Thursday. "More than 50% of the gas we get from the EU member states. It strengthens our position in the dialogue with the Russian Federation and reduces costs," said the Minister.
Demchishin previously said that he will seek a transfer to postpayment for gas and prices for gas below $270 during the upcoming talks in Brussels.
"If we will be able to steer away from the prepayment plan and switch to postpayment, and there is willingness on the Russian side, the Ukrainian side will in turn, to some extent, be able to switch to a fixed gas volume. If not, we will try to say within the same mode," Demchishin said.
He added that the "mechanism that we worked with within the winter package was quite convenient because we could chose the volume that we need and make a prepayment."
