BRUSSELS, February 27. /TASS/. The implementation of the "winter package" will be the main topic during the trilateral gas talks between the representatives of Russia, Ukraine and the EU in Brussels on March 2, EC spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen told a press conference Friday.

She said that Russian and Ukrainian Energy Ministers had confirmed their participation in the meeting.

When asked whether a "summer package" would also be discussed, Itkonen said that the "winter package" would be a priority on the agenda.

The European Commission expects the parties to meet commitments on the "winter package" and that the volume of gas supplies to the EU will be sufficient, she added.

On Thursday, Anna-Kaisa Itkonen told reporters that Vice President of the European Commission (EC) Maros Sefcovic had invited the energy ministers of Russia and Ukraine, Alexander Novak and Vladimir Demchishin, for a three-way gas meeting on March 2.

Later on Thursday, Moscow and Kiev confirmed their readiness to negotiate.

On Thursday, a European source told TASS that the CEO of Russia’s gas giant Gazprom, Alexey Miller, and head of the Ukrainian national energy company Naftogaz Andrey Kobolev were also invited to the talks.

The diplomat said the European Commission was seeking separate discussion of gas deliveries to Donbass and to the rest of Ukraine. He said compliance with commitments on gas deliveries and gas transit to Europe by Russia and Ukraine should be priority.

On Wednesday, Sefcovic told reporters the European Commission had proposed discussing gas supplies and gas prices for the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics known as Donbas separately from the winter package of Russian natural gas supplies to Ukraine.

In autumn 2014, after seven rounds of negotiations Russia and Ukraine agreed on a $4.6 bln ‘winter package’ securing gas supplies for Ukraine and the EU.
